Just upgraded to K04's have a few questions...
Alright, before I get flamed, I tried to search this out but I wasn't sure where to begin. So hopefully I can get some good advice here. I have KO4 turbos from Achtuning, however, I'm running a K03 chip from AMS for now.
1. Does the K03 chip taper the boost off higher up in the rpm range?
2. Could I run a boost controller to remedy that until I upgrade to the K04 chip?
3. Is the software going to fight the boost controller?
Any help would be appreciated
PS Josh and the boys at Achtuning are bitchin and my K04's kick a$$

Answers: I was running KO4s on KO3 software (AMS/ABT)....
You (or at least I did) get throttle cut without a manual boost controller.
I had my boost controller set at 15psi....the boost did not taper at all with the MBC - went to 15psi and the needle stayed pinned there until redline. Don't know what happens to boost without the MBC on this software because I never tried it. The only reason I know about my car's throttle cut is that it happened as I turned the boost up with the MBC.
I had no problems at all using this set-up.

Re: IIRC, the boost controller will only place an upper limit on boost, not fight the ECU.
So in theory, I could hook up a boost controller and run 16lbs as opposed to 14.7 that the chip is running? And also does the chip taper off the boost towards redline and will the boost controller give me a solid boost all the way to redline?

Re: Isn't what you have considered the AMS stage 4?
To make a long story short...I was going with stage 5 with the upgraded fuel system and a fmic and the New AMS chip programmed for all of this. When my car got to Achtuning it had some serious issues I did not know about (coolant mixed in with the oil, a hole in the transmission housing...these things were not disclosed to me when I bought the car) so I had to sacrifice some of my upgrades to fix the car. I ended up with the k04 turbos, but according to Josh, AMS does not make a chip for k04 turbos with the stock fuel system, so we had to go with the k03 chip for now until I upgrade the fuel system.

I haven't done this yet, so I don't know for sure.
Whatever the ECU requests is what it is going to try and deliver. The MBC, just sets the upper limit. So if you are seeing 16 PSI and only want 15, it will work. It will not increase boost.

The best thing to do is just try it - seems like for some it works fine and others get throttle cut.
A joe p boost mbc is like 50-60 bucks so no big deal if you have to add it.
