K04s have journal bearing, no? looks like there was *no* oil pressure, even if they were pre-lubed

Default Talked with Brian at Avalon where I got my K04's. Apparently, when...

K04's fail, it happens within the first minute after first start-up. The shaft nut is, relatively speaking, a common failure issue, and should be covered (I hope). Glad it didnt shoot into your motor. They may pin it on the mechanic for installation error, but Borg Warner claims should be notified (they will probably tell you to contact the dealer you purchased them from)...soo, the question is, where did you get them?...I think that makes a difference. Sorry man, and good luck.

Default This one failed on initial startup, I got them at Brian@Avalon. He is doing w/e he can to get this..

resolved with Borg Warner.

Time will tell..

I want to make it clear, I have no intention to harm anyone in this case. Which includes Brian @ Avalon, and the installer Sal@Elite/Storms Motorsports. I just want this to get taken care of the way it should.

Default I'll interject a little here...

You are mostly correct Perrie however the failure can come at various different points. If the shaft does fail or there is some other casualty, usually it happens shortly after install. The pre-lubing process is very important but there are other factors that play into it.

As far as warranty, each situation is handled very delicately and damaged parts are immediately sent to Borg Warner's authorized US service/warranty center. They go through their process to validate the defect or to state failure due to install. If the warranty is not issued we go through further measures to have Borg Warner take a peek and offer a second opinion. Shaft appearance is often a tell tale.

In terms of the shaft nut, it is actually reverse threaded and will tighten as the wheel spins. In the instance it spins off, it would probably be attributed to the shaft snapping and releasing the tension that holds it in place. Hope that offers some clarity for anyone wondering and BTW, of the 50 sets or so we sold last year there were maybe 3-4 warranty situations. The law of averages would have it this way unfortunately.

Kai, YGM on cell.

Default Yes. I have heard that lack of oil pressure is a pretty common failure after installation.

Even if the turbo bearings were filled with oil before installation, not priming them by repeated cranking(with fuel pump fuse pulled)will starve the bearings. Then the pre-oiled bearings will coke up fairly quickly at the normal operating temp.

Default To add oil to bearings via the feed line port on the CHRA before installation. I've heard some

guys don't do it this way, but they still crank it to get oil pressure.
