K04 questions
I'm a new owner of an '02 S4. It was a one owner car and it is super clean in and out, however I'm sure it will need turbos soon (this year).
That said I want to upgrade to K04s. I know the car has aftermarket exhaust. I suspect it might be chipped. I strongly feel it probably had a vent mounted boost gauge and aftermarket bypass valves. I'm not sure, but it might have aftermarket downpipes too. I'll be changing the oil tomorrow and will attempt to see if they are aftermarket.
All that said, when looking at the K04 offers from ECS etc there are the Borg Warners for $2500-$3000 and the Chinese turbos for $1500 a pair. Are the chinese turbos the Audi tuners sell properly balanced with the correct housings etc.? Is there any real reason to pay $1000 more to get Borg Warner turbos?
And if you are going to pay $2500, why not pay a bit more and get Garrett GT series turbos?
Personal experiences are highly desired on this topic as well as any experienced tuner recommendations.
Thank you,
Anthony
PS. I just decided I was too old for the Mustang game anymore and wanted a car that was still quick, but very nice and utilitarian too. Viva la S4.

The reviews I've seen with the CK04s have been less than desirable. I highly recommend going OEM on the S4, unless you opt for a reputable option such as Garrett, Precision or Tial.
If you're interested, we have the complete K04 hardware kit for $2800 including OEM turbos, hardware, inlets, couplers and clamps. Happy to answer any other questions you may have as well.

I got my Ko4's from Avalon about 4+ years ago, No problems,
the turbos have about 15k mi on them but the last 3+ years it has been a dedicated track car. Hard drivng!, and Knock on wood,, no problems.

The knock offs are generally not a good idea.
And spending a bit for for Tials/Garrets isnt the hole ball of wax. You have inlets changes, fabbing of exhaust, building the motor to take the power. Remember the rods are the first weak spot and I think it is after 550 you must upgrade them
