K04 vs K04/RS6 vs Garretts vs hybrids...
What is the difference between RS4 K04's and RS6 K04's? Are the turbos from an RS6 just bolt on's as well? Is the power/reliability similiar?
And are the K16/24 turbos are those from the 911TT? Are they more or less powerful than the K04? And a K04/16 does that use the K04 for a low pressure turbo and the 16 as a high pressure turbo? Would it be possible to run to 2xK16's? Or is that just too much?
And on the subject, why does Audi want you to replace both turbos at once? Is one running one bank and the other running the other bank of cylinders?
Where do the garrett turbo chargers fall in? I've seen the 600hp monster from autospeed. Isn't 2 Bar going to shell your engine?
I'm starting to look around at options and would like a lot more power, but also want something that's not going to throw a rod/blow a turbo in 10k miles. I'm currently stock.
I have access to lifts/engine hoists etc... and am fairly technically competent. Has anyone installed this themselves?
Advice? Ideas? Besides STFA/STFF/STFFA...
Thanks.

The K04s used in the RS6 have a bigger compressor wheel. They use the same comp wheel as the TT225.
they are NOT bolt on - you need to have the RS4 comp housing machined to accept the RS6 compressor wheel.
The K04/16 and K04/24 hybrids also machine the RS4 K04 compressor housing to accept the K16 or K24 compressor wheels. Both turbos are modified in this fashion, there are no sequential setups for the 2.7T.

There is a button link on top right hand corner
called "Search"
but to start you off
K03 is your stock turbo
K04 A.K.A RS4 stock turbo
K04/RS6 is basiclly K04 turbo mod. with RS6 turbo wheels know as K-20 compressor wheels
K04/16 or K04/24 is another mod. with a bigger compressor wheels
there are also some K03/16 or K03/K04 which using the stock K03 housing with mod. bigger compressor wheels.
Autospeed using different type of turbo, see their site for more information
any other turbo beside K03 will need a new inlet pipe, also the reason why you need to replace both turbos is that the turbo need to have a same speed spool up.

Give Mark a call @ ASP and he can answer your questions for all the turbos mentioned...
There are advantages to each and your end goal might influence the answers to your questions. Keep in mind price, reliability, power delivered, driveability, turbo technology, quality of hardware, complimentary parts, and I can't stress enough CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT, all play a role. Good luck with your endeavours.

2nd...
If you haven't begun a modification route I would suggest talking with Mark and company. Obviously do your own research and talk to others, and make sure you make clear what the goal and budget is for your car. Good luck!!!

The turbos from the RS6 aren't a direct bolt on
and power isn't going to be exactly the same between the true RS6 turbo and the K04/RS6 hybrid for the 2.7t engine. This is only due to the slight increase in size going to the true RS6 turbo.....as they're engine is quite a bit larger So difference between the RS4 K04's and RS6 K04's are going to be housing size/shape as well as the compressor wheel and couple other internal parts (needed for the larger compressor wheel).
The K16/K24 (hybrids i would assume you're talking about?) are the GT1 hybrids. They have the ability to produce quite a bit more hp than the K04 simply due to the larger housings and wheels on both sides of the turbo.
The K04/16 uses a K04 turbine side with the K16 compressor wheel on the compressor side. It would be possible to use two full K16's on the 2.7t if you wanted to go to the trouble of fabrication all of the attaching hardware to fit the K16's...quite a lot of work. Also the spool time is going to increase as you're going to a larger turbine housing with a larger turbine wheel as well...but still only have the 2.7l to spin both turbos.
I didn't think the ASP kit ran 2 bar but i could be mistaken. Mark can answer all your questions about that kit.
Many have done turbo swaps themselves. If you're mechanically compentant and have some good advice/helping people who have done it before it isn't too difficult.
And there is a lot of info in the archives, but sifting through it can take some time.
