Default L10 tranny people....Need help from those with L10 tranny installed.....

Well it seems that L10 is closed for the holidays. I need to know if there were any special install instructions from Sam ie; type of fluid they prefer, lube this before installing, anything like that would be very helpfull. Thanks

Default You *must* use the factory fill...

It's like $11.00/Liter and you'll need about ten of them, but you need to set levels at the right temperature. It's not easy. Don't forget the diff oil, which is standard gear oil.

Default I'm still not sure the problem was bad lube ... but here's some ideas

Supposedly, L10 does do the priming when they re-assemble the Tranny. But here's some ideas to run by whoever is doing the Tranny install

1. prefill with ATF (8 bottles)
2. prefill the Torque Converter
3. squirt some ATF into the bushing behind the seal
4. turn the TC to get the fluid moving

Q: So how does one prime the Tranny Pump ?
A: Priming the pump is very hard to do if your tranny came with the TC already installed because you basically have to disable, removing the seal, the bushing, and then remove the pump housing. When you do that you will need to replace the seal i.e. it's damaged in the removal process. That's a 3 hr process that should only be done by Tranny expert ;-)

Q: Ok what's the bottom-line ?
A: L10 said they do the priming when they re-assemble the Tranny. I talked to a couple of other Tranny experts. There isn't anything more we can really do to help prime it, above and beyond the normal steps described in Bentley and the ZF manual.

Q: So if nothing could have done, then what happened to me ?
A: It looks like it may have be due to issue at L10. It's possible that the bushing was already cracked when the tranny left L10.

I'm going to take it up with them next week.

I had mine repaired at a shop that specializes in Auto Tranny next door to DSR (a very lucky coincidence). It's all fixed, and my car is coming back together today - cross fingers !

Default Well ... (edit)

Audi actually uses <A href="http://www.impexfap.com/partlist.cfm?getpart=0&part_id=238993">Pentosin ATF</A>

or slightly cheaper <A href="http://etyproducts.com/autobahn%20chemicals.htm">here</A>

ZF recommends Esso ATF

If you buy a box from Audi it comes with the Pentosin ATF1 Label still on the bottle.

You'll need 10 x 1 litre bottles
Pre-fill with 8 litres
Follow the instructions in Bentley &amp; in ZF Manual

You'll need to use VAG wait until the TCU Measuring Block 4 says temp is good (35C, 95F), before checking level and adding ATF.

I used Mobil1 75W90 Gear Oil for the Diff

Note: You have to fill the diff while the Tranny is out of the car !!!<ul><li><a href="http://www.zf-group.com/pdf/OilReferenceGuide.pdf">ZF Tranny &amp; Diff Fluid Recommendation</a></li></ul>

I used Redline synthetic 75w90 in the Dif, and the VW/Audi Trans Fluid here are some pix to better help you out.

Default Redline isn't bad I have been running it all along.

Audi recommends you USE synthetic fluid in the diff.
