Just one question, I want to build a GT car, so can you tell me why you chose the ported 2.7 heads over the 2.8 heads. Im in the market for heads and just wondering if I should stay with my stock heads or 2.8 heads. Thanks Randy

Thanks GenX, I just couldn't get an answer from WMS. What was the deciding factor on the heads. Coming from Big block chevys the oval ports did better flow below 5000rpm than the rectangle heads. Just dont know about boosted cars. Randy

I think its more practicle to modify the stockers, i would take a nice worked 2.7 head then the stock 2.8 any day of the week.. You dont need huge ports on a boosted motor, it's boost just turn the wick up and hold on if you wish for more haha

I think part of it was showing what can be done with a bolt-on GT kit without getting extravagant with every other part of the engine. You can spend a fortune on "while I'm at it" engine stuff.

I'm also trying to make the ported stock vs. 2.8 heads decision right now.

Hey Dave, They selected to use ported 2.7 heads and intake rather than 2.8 heads and rs4 intake. For the street one probably works better than the other. Im just wondering why the decided one way or the other. Thanks Randy

I believe 2.8 heads and rs4 intake fall under the "extravagant" part.

I think it's a very good idea to build a (promotional) shop car without spending tons of money for expensive stuff that people would assume are required to get the same results as the shop car. That's my guess.. and that's different than what's better in theory and with unlimited budget.

Depending on who does the work on the 2.7 heads and exactly what work is done it could also be more expensive than 2.8 heads. In my case since I am paying $600+ just for the valve job I figure that money would be better spent on something that has a better base to start from, as well as maintain better resale value if I should choose to sell them (and I found a relatively cheap set of used 2.8 heads at the time, so it all fell into place.) One could get used 2.8 heads and inconel exhaust valves for under $1000 (and just reuse the stock springs/retainers/etc), and then any labor that you would've spent working the 2.7's is the same price working the 2.8's. So on a budget build one could have worked 2.8's for $1000 more than worked 2.7 heads (and you get the more aggressive 2.8 cam with the heads obviously.)

If you do springs/retainers/etc. then that's almost another $1k though.

WoW 600.00 for a v job is insane, you can easily get a v job intake ported with bowl work for 400.00 almost anywhere locally here... Bigger isn't always better and there's zero proof the 2.8 head is better then just a stock 2.7 head let alone a worked 2.7 head... I would put up a half worked 2.7 head over a stock 2.8 head any day...
