Last night, my coolant temp gauge was way low while my oil temp was at 200*... is something wrong?

Last night, my coolant temp gauge was way low while my oil temp was at 200*... is something wrong?
My engine had been sitting, so it wasn't a case of a warm engine not cooling down before I started the car.
The coolant temp started rising slowly as normal after I started my car, then suddenly it went all the way to the left (C) while i noticed my engine/oil temp was normal (200 deg)..
then a few minutes later, the coolant temp went to the normal "straight up" position (centered on the gauge).
Is there soemthign I should check out?
FWIW, I just drove from LA to San Fran and back a few days ago.
