Default Good tool but this is probably more in the price range of most DIYers.

Does the same thing. I paid $214 shipped a year ago.

Not yet, guess you could put it on a lift and let it idle in 6th, should be easy to track down.

Default I thought about it, but I decided I liked the hub pulling tool on the B90 more.

Looks like the cheapest hubtamer at the moment is around $275, most are in the low to mid 300s.

Hubtamer probably would have worked just fine, but I don't regret the extra I paid. I figure I have another 40 years of potential wheel bearing jobs ahead of me, the long term price difference is minimal

Default Could do it just so they don't have more time to rust in place :)

On the other hand, if they are still tight and quiet, might be best to leave them alone.

On the A4/S4 I think there is a flaw in either the rear bearing seal design, or the design of the bearing housing that lets extra water or grit into the inner side of the rear bearing. The outer race on my bearing was still in good shape, the inner had damage.

This is the 4th or 5th set of rear wheel bearings I've had. Used to need a new set every spring, but the last set I got under warranty at 49k miles lasted till ~130k on the passengers side, and the drivers side that I just replaced started to fail at 150k, but didn't really get noisy, even at 154k, I could hear it though.

hehe, I think that means don't expect it to work on the rear engine beetle?

Default Ya know VW did make AIRCOOLED motors once upon a time

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/60276/at_home_2.jpg"></center><p>I'm sure the liquid cooled reference is to differentiate tools for the older and newer VWs.

The one on the right runs on air ;-)
