Default Latest oil analysis since Stg3

This is the 2nd oil change since going Stg 3. Also replaced all gaskets and used Audi sealant at that time which probably accounts for higher silicone. Highest iron I've ever had but then there are quite a few WOT runs in this sample while tweaking things. Also have switched to Elf LDX 5W40 and plan on sampling after 6k on this oil. Still looks pretty good for a tired engine :-)

Default The oil switch.

My theory is that introducing a different oil introduces different detergents and that has a cleaning affect which can release deposits into the oil.

I've noticed this when changing oils.

Anyway, 21 ppm of iron isn't such a big deal.

Default like i said 0-30 is not suited for summer ..esp on a moded car and high mileage.

i'm using 5-50 Castrol now
that 5-40 ELF should be GOOD stuff !

What do you think of the Elf oil? I noticed PureMS carries it now. Is LDX fully synth?

Default what are some reasons why lead would be higher than average?

my additional info wasn't updated... it should say stage 3

I also had 2 long days on the track at a Redline Time Attack. more time that your average DE.

Before this, I've always used M1 0w40 every 5k. Now I've been using M1 5w40 T&SUV (older formula).

I see lots of reports of 0-2 for others, but mine have been quite a bit more.

Default You really don't have any basis for saying that.

I do try to use M1 0W-40 in the summer but on those occasions when I have used Castrol Syntec 0W-30 through the summer I have seen very comparable wear numbers.

SAE 50 is also unnecessarily thick for these engines no matter what the weather.

Is this a standard analysis or a Dyson analysis?

Default Do you know that thicker oil = < hp? :-)

I've been using the GC 0W30 for over 100k and numbers always looked good. I don't think it's solely the oil. Was running real rich early in this oil fill which could have caused the oil to shear down some and cause more wear. Also, driving style was different, definitely more WOT runs than it was used to. And then there's the new turbos. I was expecting higher wear numbers. Let's see how the Elf does in a few months.

lead = bearings. Your numbers still look could considering what it went through.
