Leaking oil. I need help on where I should begin looking. Some clues:

Leaking oil. I need help on where I should begin looking. Some clues:
I was changing my oil and noticed a small puddle of oil in the bellypan, so I looked around.
Above the oil filter, there are some streaks of oil coming downward that indicate to me the leak is above the filter, but from the top of the engine, I see nothing. Could it be the valve cover gasket.
Granted, I have not taken off the small engine cover on the driver's side, yet.
I do not smell any oil being burned at all.
Where else should I check? Thanks.
This is troublesome to me since it looks like replacing any gaskets is a minimum 5 hour job (I'm a relative rookie, but not afraid!).
