Leave it to the germans to over-engineer....

everything on this car! Case and point. Yesterday I went to change my fuel filter. They have the damn thing halfway under the gas tank. Once you get to the damn thing, it just doens't use a regular bolt to losen the clamp on the fuel filter, it uses a bloody torx bolt. It is at an angle that you feel like you are going to crack the tank pulling on it. 2.5 hours of my life is gone. The wrench fell and hit me under my eye and now I have a gash and slightly black eye.
My client this morning asked me what happened and I told him that my last client didn't like the returns on his portfolio so he clocked me!
If you look at the 90s s4, the fuel filter is right there in the engine bay. Super easy to get too. My old vr6 gti was super easy to change. Well needless to say I got so frustrated that I just put everything back and left the old fuel filter. I believe in changing those every 30k. I am at 31. I will never hit 40k while under warranty because I never drive the darn thing!
Next is that flippin clip for air filter. Once again the wonderful german's put a clip way back that not even a child's hand can get to it. On this car you have to take out this or that to get to something else.
You would think that maintence stuff would be easy to get too. Spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter. I will give them props for oil change. You can take the filter off and drain the oil at the same time. Why God, why do I have this dying love for this car! It is just a 4 door car! It is not something exotic like a ferrari. I could handle it if I had these issues with a ferrari, but this thing is an over-engineered passat!
Are the Germans still pissed over wwII that they want to get us back by having simple tune up stuff to be a royal pain and take ungodly amount of time to change so we pay out the wazoo for it.
Thanks for reading me bitch! I need a shrink to figure out why I love this thing and don't have the stomach to get rid of it.
My 944 turbo was a dream to work on. Other than the timing belt stuff, the plugs, filters, both air and fuel were so easy. My daily beater, toyota tacoma four banger is joy to work on.
How about some more reliability from this thing and less fancy nuts and bolts to get to stuff.
Thanks and flame away!

so long as audi doesn't foot eh labor bill, they don't care. cars these days are designed as 5-6 year disposable items. most people don't drive enough to warrant many fuel filter replacements in that amount of time.

that just as "routine" maintenance....
Is there some way to know if you need it? Only curious as I have 96,000miles on my car and have never changed it.....AWE stage III and runs well.

trouble with me is that I have always changed that stuff at 30k, makes me sleep better, and my warranty runs out on 8/05 and I will not hit 40k miles by then. I have put 800 miles on the car in the last 6 months!
