Default Leepy: M3 is not my get rich quick device

I got on the list to buy the M3, not to get rich. With my current situation, I really can't buy the car. I have a broken knee and wouldn't even be able to drive it for a few months, am not settled in one location, and here in NY I wouldn't want to keep the car on the road anyway (so it would wind up sitting somewhere with my Porsche most of the time) and I'm not in FL often enough to enjoy it there... and if I was, I have my S4 there. So it just does not make any sense really.

I really don't think that me selling my spot will have any affect on disparaging the image of the M3. And please don't doubt the fact that I WOULD really treasure the M3 if I bought it. I would have bought the E46 M3 instead of the S4 if it was available to purchase 9 months ago. To put it mildly I love the E46 M3 and if I were in a slightly different situation I would probably buy it instead of sell the spot. When it makes more sense for me, I will probably buy an E46 M3.

Of those 100's or 1000's of die-hard M3 fans, there are a bunch who are willing to pay between $5k and $10k for a spot to buy the car sooner than they could with their current spot, or by getting on line now. Trust me… the guy who offered $6500 for the spot isn't simply someone who wants the hottest car. He's a die-hard M3 fan who won’t disparage the image of the M3.
Jessica K

Default Hey S4ica, if it isn't a monentary problem, get the M3.

Then by having both the M3 and the S4, you can decide on which to keep and which to sell. S4 has 4 doors and if you're going out with friends, you can't go wrong. M3 might be a little tight with 5 people.
2000 Black S4 6 Speed

Default Nothing against capitalism, but...

I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a slightly sick feeling in my stomach after reading your $6500 story. I'm not faulting you for taking what the free market will bear. But it was a reminder to me how misplaced our priorities are in this country at times.

Hey, I own an S4; and an S4 is surely an extravagance. But there's a line -- there's got to be a line. And $6500 for the mere privilege of buying a car is crossing that line in my book.

Default don't dog her...if someone

is willing to pay for a spot in line why shouldn't they? they're already going to be grabbing their ankles on the price of the car, if they have the money to plop down on it, for whatever reason, let them. you go jessica
Rustynuts (can't wait for the S4 Avant to trade in my stinking V70 T5)

Default I personally would have no problem making 5k by selling my spot in line.....

In fact, I bet only 1 or 2 people have put money down on an M3 in my town. It's not insane, it's like scalping tickets. Look at all the tickets availiable for the opening ceremony in sydney for 16k and even higher....It's just like other stuff people pay exorbenent amounts of money for, and my conscience wouldn't be bothered by it one bit. I'm on Jessicas side on this one. Making 5k off some person who thinks the M3 is the best thing since potato chips is A-OK in my book!
