Default Are you kidding!?!? 996TT weighs 3400 lbs. and the S4 weighs 3600

My S4 wtih no spare and lighter rims and aftermarket turbo back exhaust is even less, so its less than 200 lb difference.

Default Yeah, about that. +/- 50lbs or so, I'd guess.

I've pulled all the asphault rust protection off the underside, and most of the sound deadening out of the interior. I've been told thats in the order of 100lbs of stuff, plus the rear seats are gone, and I've got lighter stainless heat exchangers. Stock it was 2185, if I remember correctly. Minus 100lbs for the sound deadening, probably -20lbs for not having the emissions crap in there, the lighter heat exchangers, etc... I'd bet its right around 2000lbs right now.

The Recaro SRDs I've got coming will drop about another 50lbs total out of the car. I've got 16lbs of sound padding to go back in this weekend, and at some point a rollbar will go in, which will probably get me back up around 2100lbs all things considered. Its got no low-end power, but at 6k RPM with 150+hp, its a screamer once you get moving.

Default Does a 1968 912 really handle that well?

What other track cars did you consider?
I know expense was a big factor

why not:
Miata? light, agile, supercharger=uber fun.
MR2? cheap, moddable, rear mount engine.
Honda....as cheap ans accessable as it gets. empty a civic, strip everything and they are pretty light
VW Golf/Rabbit - if it's good enough for Shine...

Just cureous why the Porsche....besides the fact that it's much cooler than the above.

But I know you are much more analytical than that. =)
