Little bit of jack/jack stand help please.

Yes, the stands are expensive, but unless someone can show me another sturdy jack with a wide and flat mounting surface, these stands are it in my book!
The jack is nice, but for the price, it does have one weak point. The top of the handle is made of plastic. It's going to break one day...for a jack that costs this much, I think that's a big oversight. Unfortunately, using the jack without the plastic handle becomes a PITA, as you need to twist the handle to lower the jack, and you need a pretty fine control in order to lower the jack smoothly. Without that handle, there is little control...it's more on-off than anything else.
Yes, you could always devise a workaround (drill the handle and install something yourself), but this jack now costs over $250!! You shouldn't have to do that.
Anyway, so far that's my single gripe with this jack. I've otherwise found it to be an excellent jack...one I'll hold onto for 20 years I hope. The hydraulic cylinder is user replacable...as long as AC continues to supply is with parts. And it comes with a 5 year warranty to start with...so with some luck, you won't have to deal with issues for a while.

the higher the car goes, the more stress you put on the pinch weld, and the more likely it is to bend (assuming that's where you're lifting from). When trying to lift the entire side of the car, sometimes you'll have a tendency to lift one corner pretty high...especially with an OEM suspension.

I'm pretty much OK with inexpensive jack stands. I've been on the same set of 6 for umpteen years now.
But the Jack is a different story. As often as I use it, I want it to be of top quality.

...yay BMW for giving central pickup locations. Of course, the location is under the transmission, which is about 3 feet in from the front of the car, so you need a super low jack, or put the wheels on 2x4's (which I do).
I don't have this floor jack, but it's the one I'd buy. I'm using the Harbor Freight aluminum which is actually pretty good for the money.
