Default Locked center diff...

I am looking for any info or impressions people have on a locked center diff setup. I am considering welding mine to see how it feels and if I like it and everything holds up I might make a small run of spools. So who has or is running one, or has driven one in our cars or a similar vehicle? Any major concerns with this setup? I think I saw Pat mention he was going to do it.

TIA

Default Yeah, I'm waiting to get on the locked center diff. program.

Weld one up and see how it works, please! I'm waiting for Marc@AMS to machine some shims to do the same thing... he has my spare tranny and center diff.

Default Everytime I think of a spool, I think about my buddy's '65 Nova that he welded the rear end...

And where the welds broke, and there were outward dents on the pumpkin cover.

I still laugh to this day...

Default I have ran welded rear ends as a cheap spool in many off road applications

where the abuse is 100 fold what even a track ***** s4 will see. If the diff is cleaned right, and the proper weld techniques are followed it wont break, ever. but i to have seen some welded rear ends let loose and it is funny. I have even toyed with the idea of welding the rear in the car just for ****s and giggles when i can find an extra rear diff.

Default I want to be there the first parking lot turn you make and your car...

starts jack-rabbit-ing, barking and hopping around as the axles load up and the car crabs.
I remember I locked up the diffs on my folks' Cherokee on dry pavement once and the turn at the end of the street was hilarious!!!
For strict track use it'd be great. For around town daily use it will suck.
Hell, even my Ofna Worlds GT 1/8th scale gas car sucks with the locked center spool.

you're thinking of welded front or rear diff's, the center will not have the same result...

Interesting. Why would you want to lose the gear/torque multiplication?
