Looking at buying another S4 - take a look - 2001 Stage 3 with 41k on ebay good deal or not?

which is exactly what the author of the thread is inquiring about. $23K is about average for a stage 3 car with 40K miles and without coilovers or a BBK. It is not a "good deal" in my opinion.
Back in November I paid $15,500 for a black 2000 AWE Stage 3 S4 with 100K miles. It came with Stoptechs, H&R Coilovers, AWE intercoolers, Piggie Pipes, Borla exhaust, Toyguy SS, RS4 clutch, AWE DTS, Bailey DVs, H&R rear sway bar, and an AWE boost gauge.
I sold the Stoptechs, DTS bar, and Baileys for $1,800 and put in stock brakes, stock bar, and 710Ns for practically nothing. Therefore it's as if I bought the car for $13,700 without the coilovers or BBK. Now is the yellow car on Ebay with 60K less miles really worth $10K more than mine was? I think not. My black car was a "good deal." The yellow one is an average deal. Keep in mind also that I bought my black car 7 months ago so the prices today should be lower and a black car is the easiest to sell whereas yellow is the hardest.
I have even less money into my silver APR Stage 3 S4. Unlike the "good deal" I got on my black S4, I consider the deal I got on my silver S4 to be a "steal." I paid 10,500 for it after deducting for money gained by selling parts off of it (RS4 y-pipe, APR Bipipe, RS4 bumper, HRE wheels, BBS wheels, etc, etc.) or spare parts that it came with (stock K03s, APR HFCs, Stock DPs, stock fuel pump, etc.) And that includes any money I also put into the car. Oh and the best part about it is the car is still stage 3 with RS4 ICs, coilovers, and Stoptechs (ran 11.67@120.4 with a full interior!)

$15K. I said that the car would be a "steal" at $15K to $16K. A "steal" means it's not an easy task to find at that price (although I've been lucky twice before with stage 3 S4s).
I said a "good deal" (i.e. what the author is trying to get) would be $19K to $21K for this particular car.

attitude. Dont be cheap if its the right car. You'll kick yourself, although, you would kick yourself for paying too much as well. That is just about right. Not all of us STG 3 owners will settle . I wouldn't
