Default Loose strut tower (?) bolt question...

In doing some under the hood cleaning, I found this next to the battery once I removed the shroud. (For reference, if you're looking at the car from the front, this is to the left of the battery...I'm assuming that's part of the strut tower, but not really sure.) I can easily move the bolt with my hands and the washer is loose.

Is this something that I can just tighten and forget about? Or take her to the dealer since I'm still under warranty? I'm running on stock suspension.

Thanks guys.

Default How are the other bolts? If they are tight I would torque the other back . . .

up if it threads in nicely

These 3 bolts hold the upper control arm carrier to the body. The carrier has 3 little bosses on it that locates the carrier to the body. Make sure the loose one is properly aligned before you tighten it . . .

Default Thanks for the response. Follow up question for you...

I'm not sure what you mean about aligning it before tightening it. Is there something underneath the car that I must align? As it stands now, seems the only thing I can really move is the metal washer, but the bolt screws down easily.

I'm worried that something under the car is loose, but hopefully I can just screw this down and be worry-free?

Thanks again for your info. I appreciate it!

Default If those other two bolts are tight it's probably ok. You should check the other bolts . . .

about 40-50 lb/ft and if they are tight then just take the loose bolt out and just make sure the boss/threads look okay, nicely centered. If not there are more involved things you can do to get it back.

Default Holy smokes how did that get loose ? !

As Jeff said the three bolts fasten the carrier for the carrier for pretty much the whole front supension. There is no reason to take the carrier off unless you are changing springs or shocks. It's pretty serious for the bolt to be loose like that. You should report it to the service manager at you Audi dealer.

Default Thanks, definitely plan on telling my service manager.

Was pretty scary to see, especially since I just drove the car a decent distance on my way back from Thanksgiving. Good thing we decided to do some work on her today, hence having to remove the shroud, or I never would've found it!
