where are those cracked cam sprocket pictures when you need them . . .
The VAG tool is really slick because you can use it with the lock bar in place . . .
One can also use a hammer with the lockbar in place . . . ; )

Thx Jeff/Eric. Helps to understand the mechanics behind the install vs just reading the Bentley or
going off someone else's instructions. Maybe I should get my cams refinished afterall =-)

Sounds like whomever worked on the M80 variants previously didn't bother using a torque wrench.
I've had zero problem with the tap method in my three engines (6 sprockets) of experience I'm sure there are exceptions to everything.

I used a Craftsman puller for awhile but it was three prong requiring lock bar removal . . .
the VAG tool comes with two sets of arms and only uses one set with two fingers. Works very well with the cam bar in place.
