Lousy Bose rear speakers

This topic has probably been beaten to death before, but I can't find much information in the Tech Forums. Can anyone recommend a solution to replacing the terrible Bose woofers mounted in the rear shelf? I've replaced the original pair, but the OEM Audi speakers failed again after 6 months. Obviously they are garbage, but I'm guessing that I will need an adaptor to mount aftermarket speakers?

It seemed that they were either expensive, or not worth buying speakers to work with the Bose system for integration reasons. STFA though... (especially the AUDIO forum)

simply replace them by having an audio store run the current from the rear deck speakers to power a small after market mono block amp that will power a single 8 or 10 inch sub. That is what I did last week and what a world of difference. I wish I had done it last year. NO MORE RATTLE!!!

any alternator noise? I installed a sub a long time ago and the alternator whine sucked...

Tweeter Car Audio did it for me here in NH but I found out about the option here on the board. They simply use the amp frequecies running to the two rear deck speakers (actually mini subs) and use that to run the aftermarket amp powering the sub. They use a high/low converter (whatever that is) to adjust the ohms as needed.
