I was dis-proving your comparison with stock vs stock OR mod'd vs mod'd.
Most people like to compare cars in the same price range(give or take a couple thousand $). The e46 is CLEARLY more expensive than a stock S4. When mod'd, the S4 cost comes closer to the stock e46 - hense the comparison.
Disclamer - I know that people also like to compare cars of similar hp/torque, but I think most use price.

BMW in Hermosa Beach tried to charge me 51k for an stripped M3
No power. No premium sound, no xenon, just a sunroof. While this car might've made a beautiful track car later on down the road that was not my primary goal. All other M3's with any options at all were in the high 50's to mid 60's and before mark ups.

So price is only factor...
So what if you take a honda civic..throw about 25k of work into the car making roughly around the price of an S4 and having that car out handle and outperform an s4? is that a fair comparison?

CAN we compare Galati's S4 vs. the M3 GTR?
I know both these cars were in either Road and Track or Car & Driver.
I forget the numbers, but which car is faster overall?
I also think that the M3 GTR comes with a V8

Well, I think... (point of view from S4NoRice)
Power is not the first factor that attract me to buy an S4...
In fact, I like this special style of car which contains both AWD and Turbo Charger...
AWD+Turbo=my dream(LanEvo WRX PorscheGTseries GTR...)
my dream+luxury+low price=AudiS4
It is that simple...
