If so, I will JUST replace lowers for now as I think that's where my issues are coming from!

Lower Control Arm Install?

Not quite...
Firstly, the bolt that attaches the control arm to the subframe requires you to lower the subframe to extract the bolt. It won't clear otherwise.
Secondly, the taper joint to the upright can be a bitch to get out. Big hammer should do the trick but that writeup makes it sound a little too easy.

Does the A6 allow you to remove the bolt that attaches the lower CA to subframe?
Is there anyway to do just lower CA's (either straight OR curved) in an "easy" fashion?
I'd like to try just replacing some before replacing ALL!

The A6 subframe could be different. I don't know.
I did all of my control arms at the same time (and just took the entire upright out to deal with it on a bench).
Price for a full kit was cheap enough that it seemed more sensible than doing just the lower arms (which were definitely my main issue).

Right, you did the Febi-Bilstein Kit

I'm still a bit weary just because it was designed for an A4. They must have changed S4 design for a reason, and the bushings are stiffer on S4. I know you mentioned that Febi/Bilstein was OEM for A4s, but several tuners have told me it is not so I'm confused.
Is this the bolt you're referring to?

If I lowered bolt about an inch (with all control arms in car) should it work?

I assume I would then HAVE to get an alignment.
Here's my deal: I would like to fix this control arm myself, but have Shine Racing Service install their suspension and align the car in the near future. I just really want to replace whatever is broken if at all possible, even if that means buying the kit and JUST doing lowers for now. Definetly on a budget, and am not sure about DIY suspension prowess-worried about salt/NE being a major problem during any suspension install. I have lots of tools, but no garage space or air tools.

Would removing all suspension components allow for easy motor mount install (passenger side)?

I'm also afraid that I may not be able to use the Febi/Bilstein kit
As I have an early model 2000 with aluminum uprights.
