Default Lower oil pan replacement question - gasket or no gasket??

2001 S4. Cracked oil pan on who knows what. 2 different dealers said no gasket, and sold me the silicone sealer. Funny thing is, there WAS a gasket when I took the original pan off. Replaced oil pan using only sealer, as per instructions by dealers and Bentley. It leaks. Maybe I accidentally rubbed the bead during install? Should I try again w/ sealer or use gasket?

I reused the old gasket w/o sealer when I changed mine. No leaks.

I didn't use a gasket on mine, just the sealant. No leaks here either.

Hey, since we always seem to have the same issues, you better get a spare fuel pump ;-)

Default I was thinking about that last week. I haven't done my research yet, so I don't know if I should...

go to a better pump, or just get an OEM one and keep it as a spare.
