Manual Trans Oil: OEM vs Motul Gear 300
Ok, as far as I've searched, the only aftermarket Transmission oil that's recommended is Motul 300. Now, from the following specs that I've gathered through search, WHY would anyone consider Motul an upgrade (apart from cost)?
I am trying to find an oil that is better for tracking and Motul don't look to be better at least based on the specs, unless I am not seeing something?
Motul Gear 300:
Viscosity grade SAE J306 75W-90
Density at 15°C (59°F) ASTM D1298 0.900
Viscosity at 40°C (104°F) ASTM D445 72.6 mm²/s
Viscosity at 100°C (212°F) ASTM D445 15.2 mm²/s
Viscosity index VIE ASTM D2270 222
Flash point ASTM D92 200°C / 392°F
Pour point ASTM D97 -60°C / -76°F
OEM:
SAE 75w90
API GL-4/5
VW 501.50
Density at 15?C (59?F) 0.864
Viscosity at 40?C (104?F) 76.0
Viscosity at 100?C (212?F) 14.0
Viscosity index VIE 200
Flash point 224C
Pour point -51C

just curious, where you got the specs on the OEM stuff?
I really don't know them myself but there was discussion that OEM fluid for S4s is a slightly lighter weight (70w-80).
FWIW, I run Motul 300. Cold weather shifting is troublesome with this stuff until you get it warmed up. I'm thinking of going back to OEM fluid.

Interesting. There are TONS of people on these forums (including Stasis I believe, as well as VAST)
that use Redline. I've never heard of a single problem. My tranny shifts (well, it did before I ruined the 1-2 shift collar) like butter with MTL.
