MB Quart speaker ID issue!
Morning all,
The audio forum does not wake up as early as you guys do, so here's the deal.
I just got hold of what was advertised as a set of PSC 213s off e-bay from a seller with a "good rep". I've had no problems with equipment purchased through e-bay, but this time I have a few observations (listed below) and wanted to know if there was any way to identify the speakers as Reference line or Premiums from the codes on the back of the speakers? On the back of the midbass drivers are the letters RWC 130 (130mm = 13cm = 5.25 in), and the back of the tweeter has RTC 25 (25mm = 2.5cm = 1in).
I've contacted the seller and await a response. Looks like a set of RSDs 213s to me, what do you think?
Observations
1. The box equipment was not factory sealed as advertised, and all packaging containing speakers and crossovers had been handled.
2. The speakers came in an MB Quart box with a PSC 213 "label" covering the letters "RSD 213" wherever it appeared on the box.
3. The tweeters are 1 inch in diameter (as they should be for a set of RSD 213s), not 0.75 inches as expected for a set of PSC 213s.
4. The instructions in the box are for a set of RSD 213s - again, this is what was on the box.

Hmmmm
Usually the R line referrs to the Reference line
The D line refers to the Discus line
The X on most Quarts are also Reference line.
The good quarts come with the clear cross over and have a serial number on the magnet.

That is a reference line 5 1/4" set.
The premium stuff all have model numbers that start with "P" and the crossovers are the clear Musicomp competition grade crossovers. Look at the MB quart web page. It tells you the model numbers of the separate components in each component set.

http://www.mbquart.com</a
