Default Mirror? Anyone resolve the difference between OEM:4B0-857-511-C-01C and 4B0-857-511-D-01C

Search only produced info that the D revision was on 01-05 allroads. Is that the only change?
I know 4Z7-857-511-01C is the compass model.

I'm looking through ebay and car-part listings, but may just pick up a new 4B0-857-511-D-01C from genuineaudiparts.com for $215 if the used models with compass search fails.

My fear is paying close to $200 for a used compass mirror to only have it melt down this summer again.

Default The newer compass mirrors are made by Gentex instead of Magna Donnelly. It is my understanding that

the Gentex ones do not have the "melting" issue that our stock ones did.

Didn't know that. New compass share 4Z7-857-511-01C part number? Or is there another one?

Default All of the compass models are made by Gentex...

I just put in a later one (from an '04 A4 Cabrio) to replace my leaky one. It has the compass as well as an on/off button to enable/disable the autodimming.

Don't recall the part number offhand.

Hi,

I apologize for reviving such an old thread but my question is very specific to this thread. I have a few quesiotns that I hope someone can answer.

1. Will any OEM Audi auto-tilt (anti-dazzle) rearview mirror work on my car if I ask my mechanic to simply reconnect the cables, that come out from my old mirror? Or do those cables carry specific signals for specific functions and require a specific mirror to work? In other words, are those cables only electric power or more?
2. What is the function "compass" that is mentioned a few times?
3. I was wondering if anyone ever found out the answer to the OT's question.

My OEM part number is either 4B0857511C or 4B0857511C01C. My car is an S6 (2000) WAUZZZ4BZYN106092 C5 4B(1)

Thank you in advance to who will share his time/expertise.

Tommaso
