Show up 1 hour early and speak to the prosecutor. They'll cut you a deal.

When you arrive, ask the court clerk where to find the prosecutor. Then, get in line. When it's your turn, ask what they're offering (no need for an excuse). Take the offer - there is no negotiating.

In Virginia you usually get a reduced fine if you plead either no lo or guilty
A nice little reward for the civics lesson you receive by sitting in court for a few hours...
But, generally they will not reduce the points. So you need to ask yourself if a couple of hours of your time is worth $40 - $50.
