Default MT trans fluid change DIY

Does anyone know if there is a DIY for changing the fluid in a MT? I've looked but can't find one. If not how big a deal is it or would it be better to have a "professional" do it.

Default DIY is not hard. Comes down to if you want to lay on your back.

i had a shop do the tranny and the rear diff. at the same time. Was worth the extra $ since i didn't want to lay on my back.

Not difficult, but sensitive to over-filling. Measure what you take out and replace that amount.

Default Not true for 6-speeds, recommended level is ~7mm below the level of the fill plug.

Your method is correct for the 5-speed version, but for the 6-speed will risk venting tranny fluid all over the underside of the car.

Default No prob.....the tough part is getting an accurate reading depending on how far off-level...

...the car is. That's why I also measured what I took out, as others have suggested.

No, because if it's incorrect to begin with it's incorrect again.

Default sorry, I am assuming of course that you would have some knowledge of service history, and...

...would know if the gearbox had been leaking, etc.

As I alluded to below (and should have put in the original message) checking with a dipstick alone is tricky because of levelling. However I did use a dipstick before and after as a 'sanity check', in addition to measuring what I drained out.
