MTM or GIAC chip for my 2001 s4 6 speed?

Depending on your location, if you can find someone that does it in house that is always the way to go. Otherwise if you don't mind paying a little extra for the name I don't think you could ever go wrong with MTM....

Garrett has been making some leaps an bounds with the M box. You'll notice people from time to time complaining about flat spots in the torque curves. No such thing with my chip. PLUS (big point needs CAPS :P ) You are stuck with the one MTM chip. If you notice on Garretts web site they will re flash your chip with a new program, 1.1,1.2, race chips, etc. for $20. With the MTM you are stuck! Plus the Garrett is cheaper and customer service kicks butt.
Now with DPs,cats,etc it is a blast to plug and play with different chips. having one is way to boring if you ever plan on refining your driving skills on a track or strip.
