Default My beautiful turbo whine has been replaced with a whooshing sound!

I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning, but I'd be interested in hearing what everyone thinks the problem is.

I have an '01 with 930 miles on it and no mods.

Default Re: TBB... How's the power over 4k?

There is definitely a loss of power.

Is it okay to drive to the dealer (about 20 mi. away)?

Default F-hose

Look at the hose directly behind the passenger side bypass valve. It connects to the throttle body. At first it doesnt look like an 'F' shape because the two legs are facing downward. It will split between the two legs. With a small mirror, check for shiny residue on the hose, or oil within the area. The crack is hard to see without removing the hose, so only the above symptoms will let you know its cracked.

Default I drove my car a while with a torn TBB, though I tried to keep low on the RPMs...

and my turbos have not yet died. I'd say it's probably safe. If you don't feel good about
it, call for roadside, since Audi will pay for it.

Default mine had a nice crack in it!

oily residue in the area, loss of boost/power and the occasional limp mode would be tripped--caught the problem pretty fast, but i believe the less radical the Boost/Chip the harder this will be to detect as my boost would rise(overboost) then fall fast(underboost) in lower gears this wasn't so discernable, in higher gears it felt like a wave!this is going to be a major problem for these cars as the part is made of horrible/cheap material, it will keep breaking! after talking with innovator i made a brass vaccuum block in the shape of the F tube to replace it until an upgraded replacement is produced!

Default The whooshing sound is gone this morning

But I'm not convinced that I'm back at full power. I'll see what the dealer says.

Default Dealer didn't find anything

Technician checked TBB and all hoses and didn't find any problems. He installed VAG(?) monitor during a test drive and didn't find any faults. Boost was fine too.

Very wierd.
