Default My a/c has sticky button syndrome.

I can't be the only person this has happened to. My ac controls are sticky to the point where they barely function right now. This happened because of coke spilling on them from that damned cupholder. Spare me the "shouldn't eat in a German car" speech, I was hungry okay!

The dealer said if they found dried coke on it once they pulled it out, they wouldn't honor a warranty claim and charge me $800 plus labor. Is there a way to remove the coke?

Default Try some electrical switch & contact cleaner....

...such as the CRC SWITCH CLEANER LUBRICANT 300g aerosol:

<i>Specially formulated to provide the single operation of both cleaning and lubricating sensitive switches and contacts. The special solvents in CRC Switch Cleaner Lubricant can chemically dissolve and quickly clean away oil, grease, dust and atmospheric contaminants, then evaporate to leave a thin film that will protect and lubricate.</i>

Default Yes, need to pull the radio, and then the climate controls (m)

Pulling the radio requires special tools, availability has been discussed before on this forum. I got the factory ones from a mail order place, but they can be had cheaper apparently. E-mail me if you want the info for the place I got them at.

There is a good write up on how to pull the radio somewhere in the tech section. I think the same for the climate unit. As I printed them out (I have same problem, but orange drink from my son), I can't give you the reference now, but e-mail me and I can send them to you when I get home.

Use a good electronics cleaner, but be careful with it near exposed plastics. Andy's suggestion on the CRC is right on.

Good luck!

Default Well, if you do a Google search on ....

... <b>electrical switch cleaner</b> you'll turn up some places that you can mail-order it from.

Or, you might try Radio Shack or a local electrical parts distributor.

YGM...also, do you need the special tools to put the radio back in too, or just to pull it out?

Default cheap fix!!!!! (a little long but this works)

boil water in a big pot.
drop in a wash cloth
remove from boiling water (using tongs no need to try to win a darwin award)
ring out the wash cloth, so there is no water dripping from it. take HOT wash cloth and drape over HVAC controls an le steam penetrate a/c unit this should loosen up the sticky buttons you may need to repeat this.
For the home ec challenged wet wash cloth ring it out and put in microwave

Default I called CRC (crcindustries.com) but they could not find such a product. I did

find it on an australian website (http://www.academytv.com.au/chemicals_and_lubricants_panel.htm) but that's not going to do me a lot of good in the states.

Andy, where did you get yours?

Thanks!
