Default if she sits so close that the wheel hit her face....

its prob. better that air bag didn't go off.

the point of the airbag is not to prevent you from striking the wheel as much as its to absorb deceeration energy and prevent neck injury from the reverse whiplast from the seatbelt restraint.

Default Dude, sorry to hear that happened. Glad she's OK. Im sure

she'll be even more sore tomorrow and the coming days after it sets in. Kinda on the fence on the airbags...it usually takes guite a force to have them deploy. Not sure though...

Default Some 4x4 vehicles have an inertia switch which will...

prevent airbag deployment if the vehicle continues to move on impact. (supposedly to prevent what Nick said below)

Default you are right. '93 jeep so its more then 10 years old

After 10 years the air bag effectiveness is greatly affected. You are suppose to repace all air bags. They dont test just replace. I know this sounds crazy because who wants to put that kinda of money into a 10 year old car, but it comes down to do you want the air bag to work or not.

Default Her face hit the steering wheel and...

as you alluded, better to sit closer than in a far back position. She probably would have needed more medical attention otherwise.

Default ?...

What parts in the airbag have a finite life?
What needs replaced?
I have never heard of this in my life.
