Default If you had the block at a machine shop, why on earth would you not have the block decked?

I'd hate to see all of your hard work and money spent go for not because of something like that.

It looks like it was decked with a hand file. :-/

Default Where did you get those pistons? Are they the A4's pistons bored lower?

I know the bore is different in the 2.7T but the
engine block is the same as the 2.9 engine. So, if
you had the cylinders shaved for larger displacement
you must have done them so that the 2.8 engine pistons
fit in it. But them there is the bore difference.

So what exactly did you/they do?
