My shifter got stuck in neutral this morning in middle of traffic.
I panicked and tried slamming the shifter into gear so hard that I popped the shift *** off.
I was able to safely pull off to the side of the road and I turned the car off and turned it back on and it worked fine again.
What caused this to happen?

Sometimes my shifter won't go into reverse or 1st. Usually a trip to 2nd fixes it, or just barely
letting the car creep forward in second helps. It usually only happens during startup, not in an intersection

All of the above symptoms happened when my synchros crapped out
Ended up having to do a trans rebuild after a while because it would not longer shift... 1st 2nd and 3rd gear synchros were replaced. It was amazing after the rebuild :-)
