Default My take on what the next S4 will be like.

As an expert in conjecture and opinion, I've devised the following "scientific scenerios" as to what the next generation S4 will be like.

Audi uses the S series to fight BMW's M series cars...except Audi makes more S's than they make M's so more people get to see them. Unfortunately it seems like Audi is always about 2 years behind BMW on this.

When the current S4 was released to the public, what we had was a car that was more than capable of taking out the old style 240HP M3. Yes the S4 is king among kings.

Well at least it was until this year when BMW released to everyone's delight a 330+HP beast named E46. Have you driven one? Holy **** be thy name.

Now in true Audi fashion there will be a short hiatus for the beloved S4 to be revamped, re-engineered and tuned the hell out of until it not only beats the E46 M3, it creams it. Screw MB AMG... who drives those things anyway? The real opponent here is that M3. So knowing that here are my guesses on the next gen S4.

- 340+HP based on RS4 engine with US Emmission standards.

- New A4 body style, lowered with larger 'sportier' wheels.

- Improved ballance to get closer to that 50/50 mark to fix the RS4s oversteer shortcomings.

- Some trim and badging.

Yep, thats it. whoo eh? The technology is in place, the designs are set... all thats left to do is wait until the E46 starts showing its age and then WHAMMO they debut the new S4 that kicks its *** like a 9sec supra. You see they did all their R/D in the RS4 in Europe. There's only minor R/D to put that in the new A4 body. So they're guaranteed a win.

Yeah long post for so early in the morning... but nobody here at work will listen to my Audi ramblings.

Do you think it will be overpriced as in the M3's case?

Default Well, if you compare the S4 to any Bimmer

the S4 is a bargain....I test drove a 330 and it was 10% more for the same options...and that didn't have the same performance, AWD, or all luxo options.

BMW will always be overprice....why? Because they can get away with it.

True! I was just thinking 'will it cost considerably more than the current S4?'

plus 10 percent...but that's worth it from ~$40k at 250hp to ~$45k for ~340hp

Default Audi make take another tack.

They may chose to use a V8 putting out 350hp for one simple reason - press. In the US, the auto press loves a big honkin' V8 and they would write articles like:

Audi ups the ante - S4 beats M3 by 2 cylinders

Now a twin turbo V8 - that would be a good thing!

Default Disagree...

You wrote..."When the current S4 was released to the public, what we had was a car that was more than capable of taking out the old style 240HP M3. Yes the S4 is king among kings."

I have an E36 M3 and an S4 Avant. I'm faster around my local track with the M3 than with the S4. In stock form, the M3 is WAY more fun to drive than the S4. Until Audi makes a perfectly balanced car with a stiff chassis, awesome stock brakes and good power out of the corner (without turbo lag), they will always play second fiddle to BMW.
