Default My turn at the rumor mill!

Heard yesterday, from a reliable, but low level source, that the next S4 will be either a V8, or a 2.9T V6.

Also heard that ALL S-Models will be imported in automatic transmission only.

Also heard that the new Multitronic transmission is more than able to handle S car power, but the problem is the routing of the drive shafts for 4 wheel drive. Apparently the geometry is wrong for the hollow/dual shaft approach, at least with the present generation.

Finally, they give benefit of the doubt to the first "suspicious" drive train problem, covering pretty much anything under warrenty, but after that, you are on your own! I'm sure for non-suspicious problems, the warrenty will cover all problems.

We also discussed the brilliant marketing stradigy of releasing a new convertable model at the END of summer!

For what it's worth!

Jim

Also, no rumor, but A3 is coming. My local Tech was the onsite mechanic at a local test drive day.

Default Heh, if the next S4 is automatic only, AWE better get their turbo kit out :)

Because I'll be keeping this car a lot longer.

Default coming from someone that switched from tip to 6spd that is a pretty strong statement...

FWIW, I also feel the same way.

Default Exactly the opposite of what I've been told

definitely a 6 spd (from undisclosable friend at AG and Audi US media rep Jennifer Cortez) and definitely a 4.2L V8. I know for a fact that no 2.9L has been sent here for epa testing.

Interesti CVT info. I'll have to ask about that.
