I can say that the rear "upgrade" plus the standard A8 front upgrade for the B5 A4 works very well together...the braking is much improved.

I have it on my car with Carbotech Bobcats in the back and PBR Ceramics in the front and I'm quite pleased.
While I imagine it wouldn't be as effective on the heavier allroad, it would definitely be a step up from where it is now.

as well as slotted rotors...i believe that "normal" driving tends to glaze over the pads over time, making braking worse. I doubt your wife aggressively works the pads
so slotted rotors might help in keeping the pads face fresh.
