Default n00b control arm replacement question...

What's a safe location for jacking up the wheel hub assembly to ride height before tightening control arm bolts?

Thanks.

Default When I replaced my upper control arms I measured from the top...

of the control arms to the inside of the wheel well before jacking it up and torqued the control arms at that measured distance before putting the wheel on. After installing and on the ground I torque the bottom of the shocks.

Default Wow, that seems hard. You tightened while the wheel was on?

I'm planning on measuring from the center of the wheel hub to the top of the fender while the car is on the ground.

After all control arms are in place (not tightened), I'm going to jack up the hub until the distance from the wheel hub center to the top of the fender is roughly what I measured while on the ground. Then tighten.

Default that's exactly what I always do

Just put the jack under the bolt sticking out at the bottom of the upright. I have a small craftsman style jack (2-1/2 ton or something).

Leave the upper control arm inner bolts and lower shock bolt loose before you jack it up.

Just be careful because if you have stiff coil-overs jacking up one front hub can lift the entire car off the jackstands (if you have the car on them).

Default Thanks for the info. The hardest part for me is actually getting my torque wrench...

in a position to torque those upper-inner bolts. Unfortunately my existing socket is a long one, so I'll have to buy a short one instead. Seems like it should fit with a short socket.

Yeah, I already used the lower-front arm bolt to jack up the hub. It does get a bit sketchy! My front springs are 700lbs.

Default yea, I don't use the torque wrench on those bolts

I don't see how you could get one on them. I do use loctite on the threads of pretty much everything.
