race tracks are GREAT places to compare street cars...this is me about to pass a Mustang AND an M3 on the way to a class win in at the 12 hour last year.

1. In the Lime Rock Park race in 2000. Mike Gallati qualified 1st, and had very bad handling problems due to a bad front suspension part as well as some tire wear issues during the race/which were not present during qualifying. Anyone with racing experience can attest that problems like this do come up. Peter Cunningham passed Gallati and finished in 4th place because of this (Gallati finished 5th). As anyone who has raced or driven at Lime Rock Park can attest, quattro has significant advantages at a small track like this.
2. The E36 modified BMW M3 which Jeff McMillan drove to win the championship was a battle tested and widely used setup. The Audi S4 of Champion Racing was a brand new car. It was in fact so brand new that it missed the opening race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in NC. In its first race Gallati qualified 3rd and finished in 2nd place. Jeff McMillan qualified 10th and finished in 4th. In fact by the end of the season, McMillan had 209 points lead to Gallati at 189 (who finished 2nd in the series). The first time Audi S4 of Team Championship (first time with the Audi)racing finished second in a series of veteran teams and drivers. I think that by any strech of measurement Audi did quite well be comparison.
3. In overall victories and placements, the Gallati's Audi defeated the BMW of Jeff McMillan. Just look at the results in this link:

In the nine races which Audi and BMW went head to head, Audi wins or places higher in 5 races to the BMW's 4. In qualifying rounds, the Audi soundly tramples the BMW 8 races to 2. Where is your vaunted superiority? The facts and results say there is none!
4. As far as engine development goes, you make a ridiculous and over-sweeping generality that the 2.7 bi-turbo has lacked "development potential... due to the size of the engine." ??? What are you talking about? This not only shows a lack of racing and engineering knowledge, but it shows blatant ignorance on your part. Time will tell whether the 2.7 V6 bi-turbo will be further developed, but that is a function of racing budget not engine capability. BMW and its tuners have put a significant premium on developing its E36 3.0/3.2 liter engine package. It is the bread and butter engine for the car.
5. In other, higher level racing series like GT3 USA class, BMW has resorted to putting in the 5 liter M5 V8 engine in the E-46 M3 chassis to compete. This of course has been very controversial, and rightly so, where is the V8 engined E46 M3 in the stores? If the 3.2 liter V6 is so superior, why isn't in the racing car?
6. It is interesting to see that you talk so highly about Peter Cunningham. I happen to have met Peter on several occasions, and I can say with some assurance that he did not give you that answer. He in fact believes that the M3 chassis he raced on was a rather out-dated chassis, and so for this season he is campaigning in a new Acura NSX racing car. He certainly did not think any sort of superior handling, balance, or agility won that day...
7. Need I go on?
