How does the Audi system function when you wish to travel to a location outside that covered on the CD area you are starting in? For example assume you are in Pennsylvania and want to go to Newark airport. (Pennsylvania and Newark airport are on separate CDs.)

You need to put in the CD for your destination in order to be able to select it. The nav system will not be able to calculate a route, and will simply show the direction arrows and number of miles (as the crow flies, not road miles) to the destination. Once you have driven into the destination region, full route guidance is begun.
I suppose that if you were in an unfamiliar area, and needed route guidance to get you from your starting point to the highway, you could find a waypoint near the region border, program that in, and then when you arrive there switch CDs, select your final destination and proceed.
