Don't worry about PSI too much, as most tools operate at 90PSI and most compressors will offer that rating. What you want to look at is the CFM #. (the higher the better) This is very important for running things like die grinders, sanders and other tools that will be running for a great amount of time than compared to an impact wrench.
Porter-Cable makes a nice one, made in the USA, priced very nicely and is fairly quiet for an air compressor. They get these from their "sister" company DeVilbiss. Good stuff.
The PC 80 gallon sells for about $850.00 and the 60 gallon sells for about $480.00.
Things can only go "up" from there, and if you want even better, than take a look at the Ingersoll-Rand air compressors.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Husky and Campbell Hausfeld air compressors from Home Depot or similar Big Box stores.

...pick a dollar amount you are happy with, and get the nicest brand/model that's in your price range.
Honestly, I love air ratchets, but for the work I do, I don't mind wrenching. I bought a nice cordless impact gun, that takes care of the heavy duty needs. I only *really* miss the compressor for filling the tires up.
I'd rather spend the money on more tools, then on a compressor and air tools for home shop use. But some impact tool is necessary IMO.

I needed an air compressor for finding boost leaks and asked for opinions awhile back. Home depot only had one oil filled compressor and it was the display model. I found the box but many of the accessories were missing.
I ended up buying the oil free type. I had a boost leak and couldn't afford to shop around
I believe it was around $300-400. It came with a hose and "made in china" tool kit.
Yea, it's loud but not much louder than what I recall my father's oil type. I let it pump up, then turn it off so it doesn't kick on while I'm under the car listening for boost leaks. I can run out and get the model name but they're the only black (regular sized) compressors in home depot.
