Default Need advice with Tip repair, reverse is slipping and tranny shop wants to rebuild whole thing...

2002 allroad 2.7t with 94,000 miles. IS there a repair for just the reverse slipping? I assume to fix reverse, the whole tranny needs to come out and might as well R&R the whole tranny.

My local indie in Seattle suggest I post to this forum as you guys have been running high hp Tips for a long time and there are more of you with experience in Tip failures. I've done some searching on past posts but some current info on just fixing the one problem would be great. I'd rather not have to fix it at all. Tranny was serviced with factory fluid and parts 7,000 miles ago.

BTW, I was quoted $4295 for the whole thing OTD including a TC.

Thanks in advance

Get it done right, your spending most of your money on labor to pull it anyway.

Default Either a bad solenoid, or clutch pack. But for that kind if coin you could get either

a high performance rebuild if you ever have thoughts of going stage 3, or get a remanufactured unit with a warranty for ~$2500.

I should've asked was the $4295 with labor?

Default $4295 includes labor and tax, but no high performance...I'm thinking...

a rebuild kit and torque converter from IPT for approx $1400 and then get my local indie to R&R the tranny. Any thoughts?

Not a bad idea just make sure that they are capable of the rebuild.
