It started about 2 weeks ago.. a very mild slipping when merging onto the highway. Then I went out of town, and came back Monday. It had gotten worse on Monday, enough that I tried to get a service appointment. I called Tuesday and got one, for a week and half from then. So I drove to work today, and it was horrible. I got stuck behind a truck doing 45 because I could not accelerate into moving traffic!
So I call them back, bringing it in later today... I got to drive it out, and I barely make it out of the parking garage here. It's on the side of the road. I can redline it in 1st and not go anywhere.
Car has ~16,000 miles on it. Service guy says there's only one wya a clutch can go like that. And I sorta agree. I mean I launch the car sometimes from 3500 RPMs or so, but not that often. Seems to me like the clutch just fell apart...! Anyone? They said they would pay for the clutch, which is good. But not for a loaner car in the meantime. Still not a bad deal, but I don;t see how I could fry a clutch in the span of 2 weeks? I mean I had a Mustang Cobra for 36,000 miles before this and the clutch was fine, so I don't think it's me.
Are there any know issues or defects with 2000 MY clutches or anything? What should I tell the guy? Should I press for a loaner car?
Hitting the search feature now... would have done it first, but not much time before the flat bed arrives.

and on the S4 it's the clutch
you bought it used right?
seems like the previous owner(s) was mean to the clutch

I launch it some... and I never dump the clutch. I didn't notice any issues with it until maybe 14,500 miles or 15,000 miles. I'm thinking maybe I just better take the clutch with a smile and a handshake.

.. and the car has to stay overnight, then they have to give you a loaner, this is not their decision to make but rather a perk provided by AoA.
Naturally, other manufacturers give you this "perk" even if it's only normal service and not overnight, but that's another story =)

It's a U shape w/coils on either side. It's a pain to get at since they have to drop the panel under the dash to get to it.
Mine was binding occasionally (pedal didn't return) I smoked the clutch once in slow traffic! but couldn't replicate the problem at the dealer. The spring finally snapped (MY00@about 20k miles). The part was on b/o for several days (got a loaner) Svc advisor said it was a metal fatigue issue and that they had replaced several of them (lots of S4s in the Bay Area)and AOA was aware of the problem.
Good luck
