Default LOL...yes, I tried this, but wife was not amused...

Oh, in case you are wondering, I still haven't done the DPs yet. Getting warmer up here but still too cold to hang out in an unheated garage all weekend. I did manage to get the Gear Wrench flex head metric set from Sears, however. :0)

Default i figured, it's been cold here too

when you get ready to do it, run the car(s) outside and park them in the garage when warmed up well; open the hood(s) and you'll see how fast it will warm up and use a heater to keep the temp for the rest of the day
(not sure if you have 1 or 2 car garage)

Default When I did my SPP mod I nearly messed that piece up myself.

It works ok but a little sloppy and loose- I'm afraid if I tighten it up it will break.

Default Good to know...I can't believe that VAG would put such a flimsy piece...

in that location. The original **** did not hinge like it's supposed to when you go to pull the button out to disengage the pin from the shaft housing (wife's car is a '98 Passat, btw).

The replacement **** that I want to install came from a 2003 Passat which does have a pin that hinges when you go to pull the selector button. I think that VW/Audi changed the design after the first model year. As a result, this original design was bound to break the plastic piece.

Lesson leaner, I guess.
