as the topic title states, I have a semi-muffled clunking/bumping/creaking sound from the front, passenger's side, area (seems to be coming from th wheel-well area). It is loud enough for me to notice (it is actually very noticable to me), but other passengers in my car say they can't hear it.
It started about a week or two ago, and has increased in volume, and has gone from a creaking sound to more of a clunking sound int he last day or two.
The steering also seems to be a little off as well. Best way I can describe it is that the car wants to pull, but it can't deside which way it wants to go. Its not terrible, but when I pay attention (especially on the highway), I can definitely notice that the car feels less stable, tight, and controlled.
I tried tapping the throttle a little and breaking quickly to see if the angle of the car had any affect on the sound, but niether of those things seemed to make it happen. Bumps in the road (even minor ones on my driveway) seem to cause it though.
Any ideas? What should I check? TIA.

the bolt underneath battery....it can come loose. this is attached to steering rack/column.
i thought my tie rod was bad but in fact it was just this bolt being loose.
apparently several folks have come to my mechanic for the same or similar symptoms you had. and this was after dealer replaced tie rods. some had even changed other components but it was just that darn bolt.
take care.
