Need help (digital camera recommendations for 500 and under)_

Well the problem is that..
I want greater than a 3x optical zoom, but also don't want an SLR sized camera.
Basically that takes out Sony, since the DSC line only has 3x optical. And their higher zooms are all SLR size and much more than $500.
Nikon are good camera's but I used a Coolpix 995 and think it was a good camera, but last I checked it's price is well over $500.
As for Canon I don't know much about their camera's.
