I followed the tech article and I have the 12 point socket on the bolt, but the bolt seems to be spinning freely. Is there a nut (other than me) on the other end of the bolt that I need to secure? I can feel something square spinning on the other end.
How do I get this bolt out now?

spray the area w/wd40 so it helps it slip out. just rock the filter back and forth with the channel locks til it comes out. one thing, DO NOT let the pliers hit the delicate fuel lines.
you may need to clip the plastic band a bit when reinstalling the filter since that nut that the 12pt bolts goes into is spinning in the plastic...
good luck!

The bolt that pinches the two plastic ends of the ring together is connected to a square nut that is simply just held in place by sitting in a plastic bracket. Mine was seized to hell and would just spin the nut in the plastic. After dumping over a can of PB blaster on it and spending numerous hours on multiple occasions trying to get the thing to spin, while trying to hold the nut as well as I could, I finally just took a hacksaw to the damn thing and cut right through through the bolt. If nothing else, it felt great to get some sweet revenge on that thing. When I was done replacing the filter, I just used a tiewrap through both bolt holes and cinched it down. Seems to hold the filte bracket nearly as tight as that bolt and now I have the piece of mind that if I ever have to go back there, all it will take is a quick snip of some wirecutters.

When I did this job I noticed that I must have bottomed out or had a rock kicked up or something because both of the metal fuel lines that extend out from the filter and go up to the engine bay have dents in them. I did a STFA for any info about this and came along the post. Figured I would throw in my .02 of advice in case anyone else looks up this thread for info. Also I have no idea but the AW will be less of a place without his help/advice.
