Default need help, i heard a REALLY high pitched noise at startup

again a few minutes later while i was leaving a gas station. the noise seems to be related to the steering somehow, but it does not sound like the pump or a PS fluid problem... steering is fine, and the noise goes went in and out when i cut the wheel side to side quickly, then went away all together.

probably nothing, it is cold here and my car hadnt been started in a few days, but does anyone have an idea what this could be? its not turbo related for sure.

thanks!

jon

Default Hey that sounds familar!! Had that same high pitch noise. for me it seems to be coming from the

passenger side vents. the noise gets louder as i increase the fan speed. I dont exactly know what it is either but i also though it was just the cold.

havent driven the car in 2 days so I cant tell you if its still there.

Default One of many possibilities is the heater fan. Search for "blower motor squeal", "squirrelcage", etc

You can easily tell if that's what it is by dropping the glovebox and listening for the noise there. It's a bit of a pain to remove it but a pretty straightforward DIY and you can get it all done (including lubrication of the spindle bushings) in a couple hours.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1817090.phtml</a

Default One more. Sorry there's nothing definitive, but there should be enough bits of info to help...

...diagnose whether the problem you're experiencing is the same as some of us have had in the past. Good luck, let me know if you have any specific questions relating to the blower motor and squirrelcage assembly.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1854938.phtml</a
