Default could u explain what u mean by "slipping the clutch" a little at the beginning?

i think i understand but still a little confused. let's say i'm racing someone, and the light turns green... do i start slipping the clutch there or right before the light turns green?

Default Do you know anyone who drives a standard tranny car?

Maybe someone that owns a car like yours?

Default I was being a little facetious... It's launch you to the freakin' moon, but is like death to your

clutch and drivetrain. Try it once for ***** and giggles and then practice what Nick S and YS4 recommend: slip the clutch a little but not too much. Getting that right is the hard part.

Whatever you do, take a break when your clutch starts to smell...

Default If you do what I said above....

you'll know what I mean by slip. Go find out where the clutch engages and how it feels. Once you find where the clutch engages, ease it out and keep the throttle the same. That's slipping.

Just let out the clutch quicker and give it more gas at the same time.

I suck at trying to define/describe this sorry!

It's just going to take some time. You'll learn the car in time...be patient.

Default As you may have noticed, it is kinda hard to explain this in writing (slipping the clutch, etc...)

Just post something saying where your general area is (Where in SoCal?) and promising lots of beer/pot/hos to whoever in the area is willing to meet with you somewhere and spend some time giving you some pointers in person.

disclaimer: Just kidding about the pot and the hos, by the way, many people would do it because they enjoy driving and want to spread the good word.

Default ok, in slow motion, after the initial revving....

the motion of your right foot is linear, whereas the motion of your left foot is non-linear. keep in mind, that the clutch is fully engaged when it is roughly 2/3 depressed, so start your left foot around there; don't think it should be fully on the floor. So, your right foot should press the pedal in a more or less constant speed. The clutch should more or less be released slowly then quickly near the end. I mean, this all takes place in about 1/2 second so more a matter of feel than anything else. Just practice the above motion while sitting in a chair about 100 times to get used to it. If you're at a dragstrip, you may try the "drop the clutch and hammer it" method, but that's not the best approach if you want to keep your car for awhile. I'm assuming you just want to do quick accelerations on the street and impress a few friends.
