The band clamps that came with the APR exhaust are stainless but can't be rotated upward without hitting the heat shield. Due to recent clearance "issues", I felt I shouldn't leave the clamps to catch on something. I bought these clamps from summit racing. As you can see, I can rotate these so the stud is vertical, to the side of the pipe. The ad said stainless but apparently it didn't apply to the hardware. What's the best location for the clamp? The pipe has a slot cut in the end. Maybe center the clamp over the bottom of the slot?
thanks
UPDATE 2/25/04: These clamps have rolled metal that bends when you torque the nut.. they're garbage.

I *think* my exhaust moves slightly to the passenger side when it's hot, so you might want to leave more space on that side.
Also, are they thin enough that you can put the hardware between the pipes? If so, that's what I'd do for sure!

were 4 inches long on the bolt. I backed up one day to clip one and the whole exhaust slid right off. Talk about running with just cats.

I've been under the car marking the insertion length on the pipes and waiting for her to get home with some high-temp RTV. Even the 3" clamp connection slid apart approx 3/4" and was leaking fumes.

ie, imagine that the male portion isn't there, and put it so the female portion and the clamp both have one edge in common.
If you are having some sort of leaking issue, that's kinda surprising. What I might suggest is that you take off the exhaust and cat/testpipes, and connect those to each other while they are off the car. THat way you can bang the cat/testpipe into the exhaust as needed to get it snug.
