Default New Rotors and Bedding BT: do you have to re-bed pads if...

you switch back and forth from street setup to a track setup? Just got a set of DBA's and am putting street (mintex) pads on. Going to be doing track events on the rotors and am wondering if I need to re-bed each time i go back and forth. If i do need to re-bed, does that also mean that I should me cleaning residue off from prev pad each swap? Thanks.

I only bed-in pads when new. after that, the first few stops on the track or on the street is fine.

Default This is a complicated question...

as it depends on the pad compounds and some other things. In general though, a pad won't work properly until you get a transfer layer of the pad material on the rotor. After that, you're fine.

With street pads, getting a transfer layer on the rotor doesn't take much because the materials allow it to happen at a relatively low temperature. With race pads, you'll have to get some heat in them to do this. Part of the reason some race pads suck on the street is because at the lower temperatures, they "grind" the transfer layer off the rotors.

I don't use Mintex pads, but when switching back and forth on the same rotors I've always just made sure to get some heat in the brakes before I depend on them completely.
